The new Performing Arts Centre (Caldwell building) for Centenary State High School in Toowoomba include a state-of-the-art Film, TV and Media complex. It also includes 2 Drama classrooms and 2 Dance classrooms. The auditorium has room can sit 400 people.
Precast wall panels that were cast on-site was used to support the structural steel work.
The Auditorium can be divided into separate learning areas via the 13m tall soundproof operable walls hanging from the roof structure.
Farr Engineers used 3D software for the documentation and coordinated structural steel to ‘fit’ within the Architects building envelope. Building Structure was also coordinated with other services such as Mechanical.
The project was a great BIM success with almost no Request For Information during construction phase.
The project also included refurbishment to existing class-rooms in adjacent buildings.
